Opelousas, LA
Opelousas is the Zydeco Capital of the World and the birth place of Clifton Chenier. Opelousas is the 3rd oldest city in Louisiana. You can visit the oldest existing Governor's Mansion in Louisiana while touring Opelousas Historical District. Opelousas became the capital of Louisiana during the Civil War after Union force occupied Baton Rouge. Jim Bowie of Alamo and knife fame made Opelousas his permanent residence. While visiting the historic district you can grab a Bud Light at the Brass Rail or a bite to eat at Palace Café or grab some coffee at Java Square Café.
